Worship

About worship

Our Sunday morning worship involves many facets, all with the main focus of offering ourselves in worship to God.

  • We sing songs of praise, dedication and testimony to God, about God and what he has done in Jesus Christ.

  • We center ourselves in God’s Word as we read Scripture together.

  • We pray together, lifting to God our concerns.

  • We listen and respond to a message that God has placed on the heart of the pastor or other speaker. This message is based on God’s Word.

  • We also give to God our tithes and offerings in grateful recognition of God’s faithfulness to us and His ownership of all things.

Baptismal Services

We practice believer’s baptism at South Meridian. This means that we perform baptism for those who are old enough to have made their own, personal commitment to Jesus Christ. If you have a relationship with Jesus and have not yet been baptized, we encourage you to do so. Baptismal services are scheduled periodically as a part of our regular worship services. If you are interested in being baptized or have questions concerning baptism, please contact the church office at (765) 643-6695.

Communion

Communion is a powerful practice in which we re-enact both the very special meal that Jesus had with his disciples just before he died on the cross and the many meals he shared with all—disciples, friends, and outcasts. Jesus was greatly criticized because of his association with all kinds of people. When we partake in communion we remember his death for us on the cross and his great mercy and love for those who are lost. We share in communion as a church body once a month. During communion we share the bread and the cup which represent Jesus' body and his blood. We invite all who call Jesus Lord to participate.

kneeling altars

The act of coming forward and kneeling before God is a personal act of yielding to the compulsion of the Holy Spirit. It is a highly personal decision. Rest assured that God hears our prayers wherever we are, but we continue to find that kneeling in prayer at our altars offers a unique place for significant encounter with God. Our kneeling altars are always open for prayer. Our front rows are also available for those who have difficulty kneeling. If you would like to spend time in prayer alone, please come to our altars on the right side. If you would like someone to pray with you, please come to our altars on the left side. If you would like to request a prayer of healing, please come and sit in the center section of the front row and make your wishes known. If you wish to make a public commitment of faith in Jesus, please come forward and make your wishes known to one of the pastors, and he or she will counsel you.

All skill levels of musically inclined people are welcome to be part of our vibrant choir program. On average, the choir performs in Sunday morning service 2-3 times per month, September through Mary. Contact Director, Grant Alford or Worship Pastor, David Coplin for more information.
